The Dunlop Tuscan Challenge

picture of team Holden

"The first TVR Tuscan appeared 35 years ago, conceived to replace the Griffith, and was one of the quickest, most brutal cars on the road. The name died in the 1970s but when TVR decided to build a racing car in 1989 it was the obvious choice. The Tuscan racer was too extreme for road use but on the track soon became the transport of choice for drivers sufficiently unhinged to consider conventional racing cars a tad boring. The TVR Tuscan Challenge Series soon became the most popular one-make race series in the land."
Jeremy Clarkson

“There is no doubt that the TVR Tuscan Challenge is a place for the gifted or the brave."
Autosport

Introduced in 1989, the TVR Tuscan Challenge quickly became the fastest one make series in the country. Combining high power and low weight to give an impressive 530 bhp per tonne the TVR Tuscan Challenge provided some of the closest and most exciting motor racing in the UK.

The cars are capable of in excess of 190mph – a real crowd pleaser!

The TVR Tuscan Challenge has evolved into the Dunlop Tuscan Challenge – a televised series open to all TVR race cars. The Tuscans remain at the front of the grid and are joined by a variety of TVR sports racing cars – from the wedge-shaped Tasmins to the more recent Griffith and Chimaera.

Cars are categorised according to power output as follows:

Class A: Turbo cars up to 3 litre and more than 350bhp, normally aspirated cars with 5 litres or more than 350bhp

Class B: Turbo cars up to 3 litre with less than 350bhp, normally aspirated cars between 3.0-5.0 litres and less than 350bhp

Class C: Normally aspirated up to 3 litres

All races are televised on Motors TV and Channel 4

The EERC Dunlop V8 Supercar Challenge

The European Endurance Racing Club has created a new series for 2006, specifically for V8 powered racing cars.

Although the series is in the development stages, it is set to gain full Championship status for 2007. Over 40 drivers are now registered for the series which is set to enjoy full grids and thrilling racing

With at least two 30 minute races at each race meeting, the V8 Supercar Challenge is an ideal home for the Tuscan and Sagaris.

We will be competing on a trial basis in a limited number of V8 Supercar rounds, pitting the lightweight TVR against more powerful but heavier cars such as:

  • Ford Falcon (ex Aussie V8 Supercar series)
  • BMW M3 GTR
  • Ex DTM cars including Opel and Mercedes
  • Jaguar V8 Star
  •
